Erzincan is a province that consists of nine districts in the Eastern Anatolia region. These are Refahiye, Kemah, Kemaliye, Tercan, Çayırlı, İlç, Otlukbeli and Üzümlü. It is on the historic Silk Road.
We have no basic information about Erzincan's ancient history. However, historians point out that the hurris lived in this region in the second millennium and that the Hayasites and Azzars ruled in the first half of the second millennium.
The Middle East dominated Anatolia against the Hittites, who founded a great empire between 1050 and 1180 by making Hattusa the center. It was undoubtedly under Hittite rule in Erzincan. Several Hittite artifacts were discovered during excavations in various parts of Anatolia. Although there is no Hittite settlement in Erzincan and its region, there is no doubt that this region was under Hittite rule.
