Siirt Province in Southeastern Anatolia Region is a province of the Republic of Turkey.
A Republic in the Republican period, Siirt was founded in 1924 by Beytüşşebap. It was expanded in 1926 with the participation of Beşiri and Sason. Beytüşşebap, however, was associated with Hakkari, which was reconstructed in 1936. In 1938, the center of the Garzan district (now Yanarsu) was moved to Mısrıç (now Kurtalan) and to the Baykan subdistrict of the same district. In the same year, Hazo, a subdistrict of Sason, was built as a district called Kozluk. In 1943 the name of the district and center was changed from Garzan to Kurtalan. In 1957, İluh, the suburb of Beşiri, was made a district under the name of Batman. In 1962, the Müküs District (currently named Bahçesaray) of Pervari District was linked to the Gevaş District of Van. In 1990, the districts of Batman, Beşiri, Kozluk and Sason in Siirt were connected to the newly established Batman Province. In the same year, the town of Güçlükonak, separated from Eruh by the Şırnak district in Siirt, was connected to the newly established Şırnak province and the Tillo district adjacent to the central district was built as Aydınlar.
